Cache Plus Magazine Article
Publication/Website: Cache Plus Magazine 23 September 2009 With her quests, writer Ana Fischel draws from a similar source of inspiration as J.K. Rowling and J.R.R. Tolkien, amongst others, to create a fantastic series of children's books that revive the dark Gothic adventures of the 19th century. "The 19th century, and the Victorian era in particular, has always held my fascination," says Ana."From a storywriter's point of view it is so rich not just in literary references but especially in visual atmosphere and symbology. This is why I set the epic in 1849."
Added to this rich 19th century landscape is the wonderful source of European tales and folklore that have formed the basis for so many of our beloved films, books and traditions. "My generation grew up on a sturdy diet of these stories, but it seems that today they are overshadowed by more contemporary cartoon series and video games.
In drawing from some of our ancient fairytales I build not only upon my own series but also hope to encourage children to rediscover the tales of old." Return to reviews listing External Link
